Port Arthur Police have identified Eric Marrs, 38, as the victim of Sunday’s fatal shooting.

Marrs, a Port Arthur resident, sustained a gunshot wound to his lower torso while in the 3400 block of 32nd Street Sunday morning. He died from his injuries on Monday.

The victim was able to provide police with some information about the gunman, saying he is a Black male that goes by the name Bubba.

He was described as being in his late teens to early 20s, no facial hair and between 5-feet 8-inches to 5-feet 9-inches. He was last seen wearing a white tank top and shorts.

Investigators are unsure of the motive as the victim is now deceased, PAPD Det. Mike Hebert said.

Additional details of the crime are not being released as this is a very fluid case, he said.

PAPD took to social media earlier this week with information about the homicide, asking for tips leading to the identity of the suspect. Hebert did not say if they had received any tips from the public.

The victim and police did converse before the victim’s death but it is unclear how much information was shared, and Hebert said they would not release this information, if available, as the shooting remains under investigation.

If you know the gunman’s identity or have any information on the shooting, call the Criminal Investigations Division at 409-983-8624.

If you would like to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 409-833-TIPS. You can also report a tip by downloading the P3 TIPS app on a smartphone. You won’t be asked your name and you may be eligible for a cash reward.

This death marks the fourth homicide in the city this year.
