Cheryl Lynn Soileau Montondon, 71, of Humble, Texas passed away on Thursday, May 7, 2020 in her home surrounded by family, from complications arising from her battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.

She was born on March 1, 1949 to Madeline and J.B. Soileau in Port Arthur, TX.

Cheryl was raised in Groves, TX, and lived primarily there for 49 years.

She also lived in Greenville, TX, Hattiesburg, MS, Rapids, WI, Houston, TX, Richmond, TX, and Humble, TX.

She attended Port Neches Groves High School graduating in 1967, and earned her Licensed Vocational Nurse degree from Lamar Port Arthur in 1968.

She was married to Millard “Monty” Francis Montondon on December 6, 1969, and with him had five children and seventeen grandchildren.

She worked as a nurse for thirty-two years primarily at St. Mary’s Hospital where she worked for twenty-six years.

Cheryl was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and where she was active in serving her fellowman through participation in the Relief Society, teaching, working as a nursery leader, and serving as a Den Leader in the Cub Scouts.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend.

She was preceded in death by her parents Madeline and J.B. Soileau, and her son Aaron Montondon.

She is survived by her husband Millard “Monty” Montondon, daughter Amber Grubbs and her husband Trey of Quincy, Illinois, and their children Jeremy, Megan, Brenna Childs and her husband Trenton, Aubrie; and her son Ashley Montondon and his partner Holly of Humble and their children Atticus, Cecily, and Phineas; her son Austin Montondon and his partner Wendy Montondon of Humble and their children Aiden, Elianna, Miles, Clarrissa, Malia, and Curtis; and her daughter Ariane Freeman and her husband Adam of Arlington and their children Alora, Aaron, Abram, and Ace; and her sister Pam Vega and brother-in-law John of Groves.

At her core, Cheryl was a healer. From the minor (and sometimes imaginary) bumps and bruises suffered by her children and
grandchildren, to her work as an oncology nurse, no ailment was too big or small for Cheryl to help. Cheryl never shied away from the sacrifice that her profession demanded, which routinely required her to be away from her family during holidays and every other weekend.

When her absences were noticed by others, her family would proudly proclaim that “Mom is a Nurse, and she has to work at the hospital today”.

Certainly, her example of service left an impression on her children as 3 of the 4 living children work in healthcare themselves,
and one works in education.

Her loving smile and healing touch blessed all those who knew her.

A graveside service to bury her ashes will take place at Greenlawn Cemetery on 6/27/20 at 2:00 pm.
