NEDERLAND — Two pool employees of the Nederland Parks and Recreation Department are taking COVID-19 tests.

The city announced the news Sunday, saying the employees have a reason to test but are not reporting any symptoms.

One of the pool opening safety protocols is constant cleaning of the pool facility and touch points.

“The pool staff will continue to prioritize cleaning of the pool facility and the health and safety of the pool employees and patrons as the swimming pool remains open,” a City of Nederland statement read.

The update follows Saturday news that Nederland Police Chief Gary Porter received notification from an officer who tested positive for COVID-19.

“This officer was the first member of the Nederland P.D. staff to test positive for the virus,” a City of Nederland statement read. “The officer stated that as of (June 20), his symptoms were relatively minor and that of an ordinary sinus infection.”

Officials said the diagnosis would not have a major impact on the operations at the Nederland Police Department.

The officers and staff at the Nederland Police Department are continuing ongoing protocols to avoid COVID-19 exposure to officers and members of the public.
