Mildred Harmon Asbury-Hayes, 93, joined the heavenly host on June 18, 2020.

She was born in Oberlin, Louisiana.

Her parents relocated to Port Arthur when she was two years old, where she lived the remainder of her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents Melton Harmon and Lillian August Harmon, her husband of 45 years, Willie Asbury, Jr. and her husband of 10 years Elton Hayes, Sr., her sister, Maudry Duhon and a niece, Winifred Frelow.

Mrs. Hayes was a member of Rock Island Baptist Church for 87 years, and served faithfully in the choir, usher and mission ministries until her health failed.

She attended Lincoln School, and worked at JCPenney, and spent her retirement years volunteering with the Experienced Corps., and the Foster Grandparents for twelve years.

She was also a member of the Winners for Life Breast Cancer Group.

Mrs. Hayes is survived by her only daughter, Debora Asbury-Scott and her husband, Raymond, and her grandaughter, Hollye K. Williams, Baton Rouge, LA;  son, Gerald Asbury, Sr. and his wife, Gerleane, and their sons, Termaine and Nicholas Asbury, along with each of their children, all of Houston, TX; an aunt and close friend, Teresa Rollins, Galena Park, TX, a special niece, Willa McDaniel and her husband, Glenn; a special cousin, Roxie Ann Alpough; great nieces, Tracey Young and her husband, Vashon, Shelly Simon, and Shandi McDaniel; great nephews, Carl McDaniel, Jr. and his wife, Tu, and Glenn Allen McDaniel, Jr.

Also, her stepson Elton Hayes, Jr.  and his wife Marilyn, Stafford, TX; three step-daughters, Dianne Hayes Martin of Port Arthur; Patricia Hayes Hiller, Austin, TX; and Brenda Dugat and her husband Wesley, of Houston; along with each of their children; and host of other relatives and friends.

The viewing will be 10AM to 12PM, Friday, June 26, 2020 at Gabriel Funeral Home Chapel, a private funeral service will follow with Pastor Kevin Domingo, officiating.  Entombment will follow at Live Oak Cemetery.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are asking those who will not be sharing in the services to continue to pray for the family.
