Barbara Howard Battle, 87 of Bridge City passed away on Friday June 5, 2020 at the Medical Center of Southeast Texas.

Barbara was born August 10, 1932 in Kinder, Louisiana to Frederick Howard and Gertrude Votaw Howard.

She and her 7 siblings grew up in Kenefick, Texas.

In 1948 at the age of 16, while working as an aid at the hospital in Dayton, TX she met and fell in love with Joseph Battle, they married on February 6, 1949 and were married for 55 years.

Longtime residents of Beaumont, Barbara and Joe moved to Longville, Louisiana in 1994 and then in 2004 to Groves.

In 2017 Barbara moved to Bridge City, to be near her daughter.

Barbara enjoyed reading, gardening, sewing and most of all talking to people.

She was also a great story teller.

Her friends and family often speak of her sense of humor and endless memories.

Barbara knew and remembered birthdays.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Joe, her parents, five brothers and one sister, her son John Battle and grandson Cecil Anthony (CJ) Jones.

Barbara is survived by daughters Barbara Ann Ramirez and husband Roland of Bridge City, Mary Beth Jones and husband Tony of Beaumont, sister Sally Murphy of Liberty, grand daughter Rusti Girolamo and husband Troy of Groves, grandson Curtis Peddy of Beaumont, four great grandsons and two great-great grandsons.

She also left many nieces, nephews and friends.

According to Barbara’s wishes, she will be cremated and no service will be held at this time.

Cremation arrangements were entrusted to Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves.

The family will host a celebration of her life later in the year.

In the last few weeks of her life, Barbara remembered an old song “Bring me Flowers While I’m Living”  therefore, in lieu of flowers please make a donations to the Southeast Texas Food Bank, or a food bank near you.
