Two Mid-County cities will have mobile COVID-19 testing sites this week and a third is working to schedule a date for testing.

Groves Senior Citizens Center will host testing from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Groves Senior Citizens Center, 5649 W. Washington Blvd.

Groves Fire Chief/Emergency Management Coordinator Lance Billeaud said the city has had a total of 16 cases and there are six active cases. No COVID-19 deaths have been reported in the city.

“We want to make sure citizens know the virus is still around, hasn’t gone away and they need to remain vigilant with social distancing and hygiene to slow the spread,” Billeaud said.

Of the cases in Groves, there has been one scenario where a husband and wife came down with the illness, Billeaud said when asked if there have been multiple cases in the same household.

The people who actively have the coronavirus are being quarantined, he added.

The Heritage Festival Pavilion, 1523 Boston Ave. in Nederland, will be the host of testing slated for 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday.

Nederland Fire Chief/Emergency Management Coordinator Terry Morton said the city has had 17 cases, three of which are active. There has also been one COVID-19 related death.

As with Groves, the Nederland residents who actively have the coronavirus are being quarantined.

Nederland has seen one household that had two positive cases.

Testing is being done through the National Guard Mobile Test Team and coordinated through the Texas Department of Emergency Management.

Individuals will be screened to see if they have: fever and/or chills, cough (dry or productive), fatigue, body aches/muscle or joint pain, shortness of breath, sore throat, headaches, nausea/vomiting/diarrhea, nasal congestion or loss of taste and/or smell.

Morton said you do not have to have symptoms to be tested.

Port Neches Fire Chief/Emergency Management Coordinator Paul Nelson said they are trying to schedule a date for testing in Port Neches.
