Robert “I.E.” Mitchell was born April 11, 1938 Port Arthur, Texas to the union of the late Clarence and Edna Jones Mitchell.

He was a Port Arthur native and lifelong resident. He attended Port Arthur Schools and graduated from Lincoln High School, Class of 1959.

He was a member of Shilo Baptist Church.

Robert retired from the City of Port Arthur after 20 years of service.

On Tuesday, May 12, 2020, he departed this life at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont, Texas.

He leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife of 53 years, Margie Mitchell; his daughter Yvette Mitchell both of Port Arthur, Texas; foster daughter, Andrieka Lockett of Fort Worth, Texas; and numerous godchildren.

He is also survived by three sisters-in-law, Elsie Mitchell and Bobbie Mitchell of Port Arthur, Texas and Viola Rhine of Jeanerette, Louisiana; four nieces, Claudia Mitchell, Patricia Hanes, and Barbara Minard all of Port Arthur, Texas and Bonnie Mitchell of Baytown, Texas; three nephews, Clarence Mitchell (Felicia) of Dallas, Texas, David Mitchell and Joe Mitchell, Jr. (Roxanne) of Port Arthur, Texas; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Rose Mitchell; and four brothers, George Mitchell, Joe Mitchell, Sr., Johnny Mitchell, and Charlie Mitchell.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 23, 2020 at Gabriel Funeral Home Chapel with visitation from 9 a.m. until service time.

Burial will follow in Live Oak Cemetery.
