A Port Arthur Police Department officer was sent to the hospital and another man was arrested for intoxication assault following a Friday night drunken traffic collision, authorities said.

PAPD officers were investigating a loud noise disturbance report in the 5100 block of 7th Street at approximately 10:41 p.m. when a man driving a pick-up truck at a high rate of speed “failed to use caution” through the area where the officers were located.

PAPD Officer Matt Bulls said the driver struck a patrol vehicle, lost control and struck one of the officers.
