A Port Arthur Police Department officer was sent to the hospital and another man was arrested for intoxication assault following a Friday night drunken traffic collision, authorities said.
PAPD officers were investigating a loud noise disturbance report in the 5100 block of 7th Street at approximately 10:41 p.m. when a man driving a pick-up truck at a high rate of speed “failed to use caution” through the area where the officers were located.
PAPD Officer Matt Bulls said the driver struck a patrol vehicle, lost control and struck one of the officers.
The Texas Dept. of Public Safety was called to investigate the crash.
Bulls said the driver was found to be intoxicated and arrested for intoxication assault.
The officer was taken to CHRISTUS Southeast Texas St. Elizabeth with non-life threatening injuries and later released.
Port Arthur police did not release the name of the suspect or the officer involved.
