Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Balls have begun flying fast and furious at 5 Under Golf Center in Beaumont. Included in the facility’s reopening last Friday were 10 just completed upper level and 10 lower level hitting bays that make up the outdoor driving range powered by Toptracer Range technology.

Combined with 5 Under’s indoor Topgolf Swing Suites, virtual game simulations, restaurant and upgraded retail center, Austin Williams’ bold venture at 5945 College St. in Beaumont seems to be on the way to becoming an attention-getting entertainment outlet for both avid and casual golfers.

Even with the 25 percent capacity mandate of COVID-19, 5 Under has so much to offer in different areas that numerous folks can be accommodated at any one time. That was certainly the case during the first weekend of the reopening.

“We were pretty much booked solid from 2 p.m. to midnight on the weekend,” Williams said. “The Toptracer technology in the outdoor bays, which is the same as used on the PGA Tour telecasts, is pretty amazing with the feedback it gives.”

For those who have not yet checked out what 5 Under has to offer, Williams has several promotions working.

Titleist is having a fitting day on Friday. Anybody who signs up gets a free sleeve of Pro VI or 1X balls. Meanwhile, those who just want to hit balls and check out the technology can do so as a single or in a group.

A single can pound a large bucket of new Titleists or Callaways for $15 and check out ball speed, launch angle, hang time, clubhead speed and myriad other feedback. Or, like in the Topgolf Swing Suites, you can play simulated rounds on named courses like Pebble Beach.

Group specials include unlimited balls for $30 per hour from 9 a.m. to noon, $40 per hour from noon to 5 p.m. and $50 per hour from 5 p.m. to close. Under current rules, up to four people can be accommodated in the outdoor swing bays.

Anyone wishing to reserve a hitting bay or swing suite at 5 Under can do so by calling 409 232-0205 or by emailing 5undergolf.com.
