Pearl Ester Thomas Mitchell was born on July 30, 1934, in Natchitoches, Louisiana, to parents, Albert and Bertha Lee Thomas.
She passed away on Saturday, May 9, 2020, surrounded by her family.
She was married to Roy Mitchell on December 31, 1952, and soon after, they raised a family of ten children – seven girls and three boys.
After Mr. Mitchell left the military, the young family moved to Nederland, Texas, finally settling in Port Arthur, in the El Vista subdivision.
Although Mrs. Mitchell had the enormous task of raising ten children, she managed to work at the former Mid County Hospital in the maternity ward.
Upon her retirement, she continued work as a homemaker, mother, faithful wife, and nurturer.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Roy Mitchell; her father, Albert; her mother, Bertha; her sisters, Helen Payne, and JoAnn Harris; and her brother, O. C. Thomas.
Her daughter, Ramona Jenkins; and an infant son, Ghengis Carlos Mitchell I, also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Mitchell leaves to cherish her memories her loving children: Pamela Y. Wise; Roy A. Mitchell (Annette); Glenda Y. Fisk; Rozlyn Y. Guillory; Cheryl R. Gibbs; Kimberly M. Smith (Trent); Raymond E. Todd Mitchell; Ghengis C. Mitchell, II; and Eryca R. Mitchell.
She also leaves 12 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Cora Jean Carter; the (neighborhood) Landry, Duhon, and Hubbard families; and the members of the Thomas Boulevard Church of Christ.
In addition, a host of nephews, nieces, relatives and friends will certainly remember Mrs. Pearl Mitchell (Grandma Sweet Pearl).
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there will be a private graveside service at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
