Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Dear Editor,

Coming to the area as the new CEO for The YMCA of Southeast Texas during a pandemic is certainly an odd way to start a new job. With stay-at-home orders forcing the closure of schools and businesses, the YMCA has had to make adjustments in service within the community.

During the shutdown, the YMCA staff have been cleaning, painting and doing repairs throughout the facility.

Additionally, the YMCA has been distributing meals on the Westside, created and shared digital content for activities and we are providing childcare for essential employees.

We are excited to announce that the YMCA’s facilities are reopening: the Swimming Pool on May 11 and Workout facilities on May 18.

In accordance with the GA-18 schedules for social distancing, and with limited facilities, there will certainly be some changes as we start up, but it will be great to have people in the building once again!

Most of our members have stuck with us through the State’s shutdown and we are grateful for their continued support.

We are looking forward to seeing the family back together at the Y!
