Lamar State College Port Arthur became even more affordable for those seeking a college education in Southeast Texas, school officials announced this week by sharing news of reduced fees.

The Athletics Fee and Distance Learning Fee have been waived for the Summer 2020 semesters.

With this reduction in fees, a three-hour course this summer drops nearly $70 from $466.07 to $399. The price for a six-hour summer load would drop to $798 from its original cost of $932.14.

The Summer I and Summer III semesters, which start June 1 and run through July 6, will be online.

A decision regarding the online vs. face-to-face status of the July 7 to Aug. 11 Summer II semester is under consideration.

“Recently, LSCPA’s tuition dropped 29 percent after a legislative appropriation. Now, with these two fees waived, Lamar State College Port Arthur is the most affordable option for students in Southeast Texas,” President Dr. Betty Reynard said.

“We are all together in this fight against COVID-19, so we are proud to help lower costs however we can. Ultimately, the most important thing is for our students to continue pursuing their goals of earning a degree or certificate.”

Students enrolled at other colleges or four-year universities can also take advantage of this summer reduction.

Core curriculum classes taken at LSCPA transfer to four-year universities, helping students maintain their progress toward a degree in spite of the COVID-19 pandemic.

LSCPA students who were registered during the Spring 2020 semester are also eligible to apply for the LSCPA CARES emergency grant, a $500,000 federal fund that was provided to help those impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.
