Miss B’s Take-Out is a fresh alternative to fast food, serving homemade daily lunches, sandwiches, chef salads, hoagies, hamburgers and more.

Owner Connie Browning bought the 5949 West Port Arthur Road restaurant in 2018.

Browning said she has built off the foundation the previous owners laid down.

“It was always a takeout and delivery food order service,” she said. “We tried to not change anything, just built on what the previous owner already had established. We have enhanced the menu and increased marketing to go out and get customers, but not much else.”

The restaurant serves daily plate lunch specials with a choice of meat, two sides, a drink and small dessert.

The menu is put together every week and distributed to the restaurant’s Facebook page and website.

A chicken fajita plate is pictured with a side of rice and beans.

“We also have a menu with specialty sandwiches,” Browning said. “Our brisket provolone is probably our most favorite, and we do salads, hamburgers and a daily dessert.”

All items are made in-home from fresh ingredients. Deli meats are cut daily in the shop.

Browning’s specialties include a spaghetti-and-meatball recipe handed down from her father and an award-winning gumbo.

“There is no packaged or processed foods,” Browning said. “We’ve done several competitions and won for our gumbo. We’ve also kept several great recipes from before. We merged the recipes and made it even better. All of our desserts and pies are made from scratch, too.”

Browning said Miss B’s mainly services the surrounding plant industry and workers.

“We have their emails, or they’ll call us and then we deliver it to the various employees,” she said. “We also have a lot of employees who will eat here in the outside area. That part has really picked up and gotten increasingly larger.”

Miss B’s Take-Out serves homemade desserts including a lemon pie.

The popularity is chalked up to serving up an old style plate lunch.

“It’s harder to get,” Browning said. “We brought that back. You get meat, two sides, a roll and a dessert. There just aren’t a lot of restaurants that do that anymore, and we’re local. People want to support a local business that provides better quality, fresh made every single day, type of food. It’s just a really good option. A lot of people are going back to that.”

Miss B’s is a takeout and delivery only option. Browning said this alleviated the pain of turnaround time when the coronavirus pandemic onset.

“Takeout and delivery is what we’ve always done,” she said. “Our business model caters to that, so when the pandemic hit, we didn’t really have to change anything. We are able to keep going and increase our business.”

Browning said she hopes to continue growing the business and service more of the surrounding community.

“We are here to support them and in turn they support us,” she said. “We are able to service our customers and turn out really good quality food to everyone.”

Miss B’s Take-out is open Monday-Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and closed on Saturday and Sunday.
