NEDERLAND — Public health officials said a new case of COVID-19 has been confirmed for a Nederland resident.

According to the Port Arthur and Jefferson County health departments, the impacted individual is a male between the ages of 40-45. He is currently quarantined at home and cooperating with local health officials.

This brings the total to six individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19 in Nederland.

According to the city of Nederland, the sixth case is not new but a re-recording of a previous case.

“Today, we received clarification that Nederland’s count is 6 as was previously reported, not 5,” a Nederland statement read.

Port Arthur officials said Epidemiological investigators and public health staff will perform investigations and surveillance on these patients to identify individuals who potentially were associated with these cases.

The Southeast Texas Regional Emergency Operations Center said the Nederland COVID-19 case was the only new case logged on Tuesday between Mid-Couty and Port Arthur.

Port Arthur cases sit at 25, Groves has six confirmed cases and Port Neches has five cases.

Beginning Wednesday, the Call Center will close each night from 8 p.m. until 8 a.m.

“If you call during this time, you will be directed to leave a message with your name and phone number,” according to the Operations Center. “Someone will call you the next morning to schedule an appointment for testing. If you feel like it’s an emergency, please hang up and call 911 immediately.”

Those experiencing symptoms such as cough, shortness of breath or fever, call 409-550-2536 for an appointment to be tested for COVID-19.

There are steps to take to keep you and loved ones protected:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
  • If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60 percent alcohol.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Stay home if you are sick.
  • Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue and then throw the tissue in the trash. If tissues are not available, cough and sneeze into your elbow. Do not cough and sneeze into your hands.
  • Frequently clean and disinfect objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
  • Get a flu shot. The flu vaccine does not offer protection against COVID-19, but it is also flu season.
