Dr. Roland August Kringel, 94, of Cypress, TX (formerly of Groves), a kind, gentle man of integrity went to his Lord and Savior on Palm Sunday, April 5, 2020 at his lake house surrounded by family.

He was born October 15, 1925 in Galveston, TX to Emil H. Kringel and Mary Lott Kringel.

Roland grew up in Port Arthur, TX and graduated from Thomas Jefferson HS.

Following his graduation from UT Dental Branch Houston in 1956, he opened his practice in Port Arthur.

He retired at the age of 74 after 47 years of service as a beloved and highly respected Pediatric Dentist in the community.

He served his country in the US Army as a T SGT during WWII.

Roland gave a life of service to his church and community.

Roland served on various committees, was an elder and trustee in Port Arthur’s Presbyterian Church.

Community involvement included the BSA (Three Rivers Council board and Institutional Representative earning the District Award of Merit), Kiwanis Club (Club President and TX-Oklahoma Lt. Governor), Camelia Society (President), Salvation Army (volunteer and Bell Ringer), TX Dental Society (original member of DenPac), Free Dental Clinic (volunteer), and TX Art Museum Society (President and Board Member).

He was known for his artistic talents, his beautiful garden and the camelia flowers he enjoyed sharing with friends and the community.

Roland was a devoted family man. He and Janice actively participated in their children’s activities and always welcomed their friends into the family with open arms.

Due to the circumstances of the Coronavirus, the Kringel family will have a Memorial Service at a later date to honor Roland’s life.

Roland was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Priscilla Kringel Skaggs and brother, Howard.

He is survived by his wife, Janice Hamble Kringel, sons, Michael Kringel and wife Becky of Cypress, TX, Kirk Kringel and wife Ema of Austin, TX, daughters, Mary Kathryn Mitchell and husband Larry of Atascocita, TX, Robin Caldwell and husband Howard of Round Rock, TX, eight grandchildren, Ben Peska, Kaelyn Kringel, Vincent and Christian Kringel, Kathryn and Lauren Mitchell, Alan and Cara Caldwell, and three great grandchildren, Kinely, Carter and Jackson Peska.
