PAPD: Man shoots relative in neck; neither wants to file charges

A 58-year-old San Antonio man is behind bars after police say he shot his Port Arthur relative in the neck Thursday afternoon.
The suspect, identified as Whitney Como III, was also injured in the shooting with a gunshot wound to his lower extremities following a disturbance that took place at approximately 2:42 p.m. at a home in the 800 block of Stilwell Boulevard.
Police did not say if the shooting happened indoors or outdoors.
Upon arrival a the home officers found a male victim that lived at the home, age 46, with a gunshot wound to the neck, according to information from PAPD Officer Matt Bulls.
Det. Sadie Guedry said the two men are relatives but could not say how they are related.
Both men were taken to a hospital for treatment and the suspect was later taken to the Jefferson County Correctional Facility. Como is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon-family violence, and bond is set at $75,000.
Como’s booking-in photo was shared to the Port Arthur News showing him with stitches across his nose. An official with the Sheriff’s Office said he entered the facility with the injury.
The health status of the victim was not available at press time.
Guedry said neither man wants to file charges at this time. In addition, police are not releasing information on what led to the shooting.
PAPD’s Criminal Investigations Division is handling the case.
