Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Dear Editor,

During this time of social distancing and with kids home due to school closings, here is an option for parents to enjoy a day of recreation and relaxation!

There are 12 miles of levee roads on Pleasure Island, plenty of room to distance yourself from others, thanks to City Councilman Cal Jones of Port Arthur, Precinct 3 Commissioner Michael Sinegal, and Sheriff Zena Stephens.

They have worked together to keep the levee roads clean and cut for citizens to enjoy. Bring the kids to the Island and enjoy fishing, bird watching, kayaking and a scenic drive.

The weather is getting warmer and the fishing is picking up. Come on out and enjoy the outdoors and clear your mind.

Since I was a young boy, I have enjoyed the Island and all it has to give. I am now a senior citizen and still go out there almost every day.

I try to keep the Island clean by picking up trash while I am out there. If you are not familiar with the area, if you see me stop and I will give you a map of Lake Sabine and Pleasure Island.

Please remember, clean up after yourself when you leave so everyone can enjoy Pleasure Island.
