Michael Mitchell is a true Port Arthur native.
The 50-year-old certified nurse practitioner grew up in the halls of Thomas Jefferson High School. He attended Lamar University for his undergrad before pursuing a master’s in nursing at the Texas Woman’s University in Houston.
Now, he has brought his Tri-City Medical Clinic practice home to Port Arthur.
“I wanted to be able to provide good care to people who want to be healthy and take care of themselves,” he said. “I want to be available to anyone who wants to be healthy and give them the tools and teaching to be able to do that.”
Tri-City Medical Clinic provides medical care, treats acute illness, takes care of specialty weight loss management, maintains men’s health and more.
Mitchell said his love for health care started at an early age as a way to simply help people.
“This is my outlet,” he said of the practice. “To be able to help through health care, that’s my passion.”
Mitchell is a certified family practitioner, but has dabbled in long-term care, emergency services and intensive care.
His love for family nursing is the broadness it brings to the community.
“You’re not limited to someone with cardiac problems or anything else, you can help someone with diabetes, some one with weight issues, skin care, all of it,” he said. “You can provide help to anyone who needs it.”
Mitchell said it is rewarding to be home servicing the community that raised him.
“To see some familiar faces, and give them the help and information that they need, that they may not be aware of, is incredible,” he said.
Tri-City Medical treats adolescents to adults. Mitchell said the most important part of his job is sharing knowledge with his patients.
“It’s not just about treating patients,” he said. “It’s about broadening their knowledge to keep them well and their families well. I want patients to be able to help their families, too and broaden that through the community.”
Michael Mitchell runs Tri-City Medical Clinic alongside his brother, Dr. Ronnie Mitchell, who services the joint Regenerative Medical Clinic.
Ronnie is a general practice DL physician focusing on general medicine and men’s health.
Michael said working alongside his brother brings the “family” aspect back into family medicine.
“Medical is going so corporate nowadays that they are losing that family care,” he said. “By working together, we want to bring that back to the community. We thought this outlet would be a great way to do that.”
Michael is married to Ebony Mitchell and together they have three boys — Michael II, Jordan, Myles — and late daughter Malia.
When he isn’t suited up in a lab coat, Michael likes to hang out at home, spend time with his family and travel.
Tri-City Medical officially opens March 9 with a ribbon cutting ceremony to be announced. The office is located on the second floor inside of The Atrium at 2300 FM 365, Suite 200, in Nederland.
