One motorist was killed in a violent two-vehicle crash Tuesday morning in Orange County, authorities said.
At approximately 5:30 a.m., Texas Department of Public Safety troopers responded to a multiple vehicle crash on FM 1006 in Orange County approximately a mile east of SH 87.
The preliminary crash investigation indicates a 2005 Honda passenger vehicle was traveling westbound on FM 1006 at the same time a 2000 Ford SUV was traveling eastbound on FM 1006.
For an unknown reason, authorities said the driver of the Honda, Anthony Palomo, lost control of his vehicle, causing it to go into a side-skid. The vehicle crossed into the eastbound traffic lane and was struck by the Ford.
Palomo was pronounced deceased by Justice of the Peace Rodney Price at the scene.
The Texas Department of Public Safety said Palomo was 18 and a Woodville resident.
The driver of the Ford, 47-year-old Dane Yates of Port Arthur, was taken to CHRISTUS Southeast Texas St. Elizabeth Hospital with serious injuries.
Eeastbound and westbound traffic lanes of FM 1006 remain closed until the crash investigation is complete, authorities announced at 7:52 a.m.
There is no time estimation as to when the roadway will reopen to traffic.
Motorists are urged to find an alternate travel route.
All information is preliminary as troopers work to determine the exact factors that contributed to this fatal crash.
