Eleven of 12 Memorial Ninth Grade Academy singers received medals in the Region X UIL Choral Solo & Ensemble Competition on Feb. 1.

Eight girls in a Treble Medium Ensemble, singing two songs, earned a Division I Superior rating: Kailee Barajas, Autumn McGuire, Sidney Navarro, Esmeralda Rezk, Ja’Maya Rogers, Jamya Stevenson, Lauren Thomas and Adriana Young.

Three soloists who earned a Division I rating qualified to compete at the State Solo & Ensemble Contest, May 31-June 2 at the University of Texas at Austin: Jermey Houston, Ernesto Balderas and Rezk.

Soloists receiving a Division II Excellent rating include Marcus Small, Barajas, McGuire, Navarro, Rogers, Stevenson, Thomas and Young.

Ethan Vidalier earned a Division III Good rating.

Memorial choir director Ruth Houston offered thanks to the Memorial High School staff and fine arts supervisor Mollyn Cole for encouragement and helping to prepare for the competition.
