A man arrested Saturday by Beaumont Police and housed in the county jail died this week, two days after an apparent suicide attempt, authorities said.
According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Beaumont Police booked 22-year-old Joshua Allen Sees for felony escape, aggravated kidnapping, aggravated sexual assault and aggravated robbery.
Sees was housed in a single cell due to his aggravated charges.
In the afternoon hours of Monday, Sees attempted to commit suicide in his cell, police said, and was discovered by corrections officers during mandated rounds.
Corrections officers and medical staff initiated CPR and were able to resuscitate Sees, who was taken to a local hospital.
The Sheriff’s Office said Sees was the hospital when he died Wednesday afternoon.
Justice of the Peace Ben Collins was notified and an autopsy was ordered.
As per Texas Commission on Jail Standards and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Policy, this incident is being investigated by the Texas Rangers.
Sees’ family has been notified.
