Beaumont woman identified in Port Arthur auto-ped fatality

Port Arthur police have identified the woman who was fatally struck by a vehicle while walking on early Sunday morning as Catherine Leday, 31, of Beaumont.

Police responded to the auto-pedestrian accident at approximately 3:49 a.m. Sunday in the 5100 block of U.S. Highway 69 southbound.

An official with the Port Arthur Police Department said the accident happened just before the Texas Highway 73 exit on U.S. 69 and the victim died at the scene. Jefferson County Justice of the Peace Pct. 2 Marc DeRouen ordered an autopsy.

PAPD has not released information about the vehicle that struck the woman or if the driver was issued a citation but did say this was not a hit-and-run incident. Members of the department’s Advance Accident Investigation team, as well as an ID technician, responded to assist with the investigation. PAPD’s Criminal Investigation Division is handling the case with assistance from the AAIT.

This is the second auto-pedestrian accident in three days in the city. A woman was seriously injured after she was struck by vehicle while attempting to cross the road around 10:05 p.m. Thursday in the 2600 block of Memorial Boulevard.

PAPD did not release her name or age or say whether the driver was cited.
