A pedestrian that was struck by a vehicle while walking on Rosedale Avenue over the weekend remained hospitalized Tuesday.
Port Arthur Police Sgt. Lam Nguyen said the man remains in critical condition but declined to release the man’s name or age citing the family’s wishes for privacy.
Police said the man was walking north in the northbound lane of the 1800 block of Rosedale Avenue while wearing dark clothing at approximately 6:06 a.m. Saturday.
The area where he was struck was unlit. The driver told police it was dark and he did not see the pedestrian until it was too late and struck him.
The victim was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont, then flown via helicopter to Memorial Hermann Hospital with a serious, life threatening head injury.
Details of the collision are under investigation and it is unknown where in the roadway the victim was when he was struck. Nguyen said a crash reconstruction will be performed but did not give specifics on when.
The case remains under investigation by PAPD’s Advanced Accident Investigation Division and the Criminal Investigations Division.
