NEDERLAND — Janet Polk was hired as the new cross walker for the C.O. Wilson Middle School in Nederland at the start of the 2019 school year.

In an effort to relate to the children she’s charged with every day, Polk took to the Internet, where she found a variety of funky, holiday themed hats.

The 73-year-old decided to crochet her own talking pieces, which she wears proudly on her head every day to work.
