Jonathan Williams grew up trail riding and listening to Zydeco music. As he got older his tastes switched to R&B and hip-hop.

“Put those two together and I came up with the Best of Both Worlds, my persona and genre of what I like,” Williams, of The Winner’s Circle Riders trail riding group, said.

From this was born the Best of Both Worlds, Zydeco festival.

This year marks the second annual festival, which will be held Friday at the pavilion in downtown Port Arthur, 500 Procter St. Gates open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the gate.

The event will feature Leon Chavis & The Zydeco Flamez, 97.9 The Box’s Hardbody Kiotti, DJ Chose & BaldennaThaKing, MC Ducky on the MC and KenTheMan, and up and coming hip hop artists, he said.

The Winner’s Circle Riders

The Winner’s Circle Riders is a group of locals, mostly from Port Arthur, who not only trail ride together but also hold events to give back to the community.

The Zydeco fest event will help with scholarships for three students to help them with college expenses.

They have taken part in the city’s Trunk R Treat along with the Port Arthur Police Department, a Walk to Heaven to help a child with Sickle Cell disease, and have participated in the Elandon Roberts Heart Walk every year.

The group is also about getting together and having fun and trophies will be given out Friday for most members in uniform, the group that makes the most noise/has the most fun, farthest traveled award and “dranking potna award” for the group that buys the most alcohol from the event, which in turns goes back to scholarships.
