NEDERLAND — Mathews Jewelers is celebrating some changes that include a new location at 3308 FM 365 in Nederland.

The store may seem a bit familiar — it was once home to Nederland Jewelers. Michelle Price purchased Mathews Jewelers from original owner Stan Mathews more than a year ago and when Nederland Jewelers’ owner Gladys Wojcik decided to retire, she sold the Nederland location as well as the Dowlen Road location in Beaumont.

The Nederland location has a fresh look inside. There is still Lagos jewelry as well as Vahan jewelry and Frida Rothman collections.

History & More

Mathews Jewelers was established by Stan Mathews in 1984.

“He dropped out of college to work at Zales,” Price said, adding Mathews worked there for 14 years before opening his flagship location in Orange. From there he branched out to Beaumont.

Price got into the diamond business by a chance encounter with Mathews while in high school.

“My success, a huge part, is due to Stan and my very supportive husband and family,” she said. “Experience is everything, you can’t just read it in a book. “

Price said what sets Mathews Jewelers apart from others is they are a diamond jeweler and do not sell manmade stones. There are also the years of experience and customers don’t have drive to Houston to get it.

Price does a lot of custom work and said she enjoys sitting down and drawing out the dream ring of the customer’s life.

The new Nederland location is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. They will also have extended holiday hours.
