Police in Port Arthur are still trying to piece together a shooting that left a 21-year-old Mid-County area man with a gunshot wound earlier this week.

To further complicate the issue, the man, identified as Andrew English, told police he was shot while at an apartment complex at 1401 Poole Ave. and was driven to the hospital by private vehicle.

Police were alerted that a person with a gunshot wound to his upper torso was at The Medical Center of Southeast Texas at 9:18 p.m. Monday. He was later life-flighted to Hermann Hospital in Houston.

“The investigation lasted quite a while into the night,” PAPD Chief Tim Duriso said. “We are still unclear what happened. The detectives are still putting the pieces in place. We’re hoping someone will come forward and help us tie up loose ends.”

Duriso said English was shot inside an apartment but did not elaborate on whose apartment or why the man was there.

Police also did not say who brought the man to the hospital after the shooting.
