Female stranded on U.S. 69 killed while trying to flag down help

At approximately 7 p.m., Texas Department of Public Safety troopers responded to an auto-pedestrian crash on U.S. 69 in Jefferson County.

The crash occurred just south of FM 3514.

The preliminary DPS crash investigation indicates that a Nissan pickup truck was traveling southbound on U.S. 69.

The vehicle ran out of gas in the right lane of U.S. 69.  The driver, 34-year-old Stephanie Kirk of Bridge City, exited the vehicle, stood in the roadway and attempted to flag down another motorist. As Kirk stood in the road, she was struck by a Ford F-150 pickup truck.

Kirk was pronounced deceased by Justice of the Peace Ransom Jones at the scene.

A passenger in the Nissan was not injured.

The driver of the Ford pickup truck, a 27-year-old male from Orange, was not injured.

Motorists are urged to use caution while traveling in the area and to stay alert for slow moving or stopped traffic.

All information is preliminary as Troopers continue to investigate this fatal crash.
