BEAUMONT – Davis Walters, 37, was sentenced this week by a Jefferson County jury in the 252nd Criminal District Court to life in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

Walters pleaded guilty to the Sept. 30, 2018, murder of Kiana Joubert, 23, of Beaumont. He requested a jury determine his punishment.

After deliberating for less than one hour Wednesday, the jury returned its verdict. Walters has previous convictions for burglary of a habitation and sexual assault of a child.

“This case is as horrific and brutal a murder that we have seen,” Prosecutor Luke Nichols said. “Davis Walters needs to be kept away from society for the good of our community. The jury did a great job in reaching their decision, and the family of Kiana Joubert appreciates them and the work of Beaumont Police Department.”

Beaumont police officers were called to the Landmark Apartments on French Road shortly after midnight on Sept. 30, 2018, after reports of a woman being stabbed and beaten. Officers found Walters in the victim’s car in the complex parking lot.

His hand and clothes were stained with blood. Joubert died at the scene as a result of multiple stab wounds to her neck and chest. Walters confessed to Beaumont Police that he killed Joubert after she ended their four-week relationship.

After beating and choking Joubert, he kicked and stomped her head before retrieving a kitchen knife.

Jurors heard Walters’ chilling admission that he cut her on the neck once, but “did not think that was enough,” so he continued stabbing her.
