Port Arthur artist Igalious “Ike” Mills presented this abstract expressionist mixed media artwork to basketball great Julius “Dr. J” Erving during Lamar University’s basketball Tip-Off banquet Saturday at the Montagne Center in Beaumont, where Erving delivered the keynote address.

At the bottom left, Mills wrote a piece of poetry, which he said Erving happens to like.

The quote, titled “Eye of The Soul,” reads: “To look from the spiritual eye is to see the soul as it is, nothing more and nothing less, it simply is.”
