Mary Nell Dore

Mary Nell Dore passed away peacefully on September 30, 2019 in Fairfax, Virginia, soon after her 94th birthday.

Mary Nell was a longtime resident of Port Arthur, Texas.

She was born in Longview, Texas in 1925 to Edward Clyde Dalton and Nancy Kinney Dalton.

Mary Nell moved with her family to Port Arthur at the age of 14, where she graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in the class of 1943, and later graduated from Port Arthur Business College.

Mary Nell was very active in the local community.

She served in the Service League of Port Arthur and many other civic organizations over her lifetime.

Mary Nell was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School in the 1960’s.

Mary Nell was always passionate about antiques and meeting new friends.

This passion was the foundation of her long and happy career as a salesperson with Snooper’s Paradise Antiques, until her retirement at the age of 86.

During her career, Mary Nell earned her certification as an appraiser with the International Society of Appraisers, and worked as an appraiser in the field.

Mary Nell is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Harry Roy Dore, and her two sisters, Dorothy Dalton Kuykendall and Laverne Dalton Jones.

She is survived by her daughter Donna Browne and husband Robert, her son, Mark Dore and wife Rhonda, her grandchildren Amanda Owens, Abigail Petouvis and husband Dan, Jeff Dore and wife Emily, Michael Dore, Christopher Little and wife Yvette, great – grandchildren Robert Owens, Adam Owens, Benjamin Petouvis, Lucy Cate Petouvis, Avery Dore, Austin Dore and Carter Dore, together with many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Mary Nell will be remembered by her family as an elegant, gracious, and very generous woman who was devoted to her husband, children, grandchildren, and great – grandchildren.

She loved to attend their games, plays, birthday parties, graduations, weddings, anniversaries,
many other life events too numerous to mention.

She will be dearly missed.

There will be a short family graveside service at Greenlawn Cemetery on October 26, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. under the direction of Levingston Funeral Home in Groves, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary Nell’s memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
