SABINE PASS – The Legacy Christian Warriors rode the strong arm of quarterback Grant Davis in posting a 41-28 victory over the Sabine Pass Sharks on Friday night.

Davis tossed for 246 yards and four touchdowns in the victory.

Sabine Pass’ opening kickoff was fumbled by the Warriors and recovered by the Sharks’ Carlos Chavez.  The Warrior defense stiffened and forced a punt into the end zone.

Sabine Pass got on the board first when an errant snap over the head of Davis was downed in Legacy’s end zone for a safety.

The Sharks were unable to do anything after the free kick and punted to the Warriors 25.  After Aiden Neireiter’s three runs produced a first down, Davis found Kennedy Andrews open to the Sharks’ 12.  Davis then paired up with Andrews again to take a 6- 2 lead.

Sabine Pass responded with a quick handoff to Harold James for a 58-yard touchdown.  Jeann Zuniga’s kick gave Sabine Pass a 9-6 advantage.  In the ensuing possession, Davis located Aiden Prudhomme open for a 30-yard TD pass. Davis added a PAT kick as the Warriors regained a 13-9 lead.

Both teams had long second-quarter drives that were denied points.  With 1:36 left in the half, Shark freshman Rylan Johnson picked off a Davis pass and returned it to the Warrior 22.  After being stymied with two runs and an incomplete pass, the Sharks tried a fake field goal from the 21 yard line.  Ahmad Lorthridge was tackled at the Warriors’ 3-yard line as time expired.

Sabine Pass scored on their first possession in the second half on a 10-yard run by Lorthridge. Zuniga’s kick gave them a 15- 13 lead.

The Warriors responded quickly through the air with Davis finding Andrews for an 8-yard TD.  Legacy Christian’s kick gave them a 19-15 lead with 6:51 left in the third.

After the Warriors forced the Sharks to punt, the visitors from Beaumont took over on their 4-yard line.  The Shark defense took advantage of this opportunity and strip-sacked Davis in the end zone for a touchdown. Lorthridge came up with the fumble.  The PAT pass was incomplete and Sabine Pass held a slender 21- 20 lead.

After the teams exchanged possessions to enter the last quarter, Kennedy Andrews returned a 38-yard punt return that gave them the final lead.  After the successful PAT kick, Davis pounded the kickoff to the Sharks’ one-yard line where the Warriors recovered. Neireiter scored on the next play and the Warriors for a 34- 21 score.  On the Sharks’ second play from scrimmage, Lorthridge broke free for an 88-yard scamper. Zuniga’s kick cut the lead to 34- 28.

Taking the kick return to Legacy’s 22, Davis hooked up with Gerard Bradley for 43 yards and then Prudhomme for 17 yards and a touchdown.  The PAT kick made the final score 41-28.
