Prep roundup: Bulldogs sweep away Pirates; Rock-A-Noos next

Hannah Hickey and Katie Perez each had eight kills Tuesday, and Nederland returned to the win column with a 25-14, 25-19, 25-19 sweep of Vidor at the Dog Dome, with a key District 21-5A rematch against Port Neches-Groves upcoming.

Perez contributed six digs and an ace and Hickey had three blocks and two aces for the Bulldogs (24-14, 7-2 in 21-5A). Karley McGill had seven kills, Kamren Savarino had 26 assists and three aces and Kaylee Adams 27 digs and an ace in the win.

Nederland and PNG will battle for second place in the district at 6:30 p.m. Friday at The Reservation.

PNG 3, Dayton 0

In Port Neches, Liz Bolyard’s 13 kills and Paxton Shults’ 22 assists helped the Rock-A-Noos to a 25-23, 25-23, 25-12 sweep of Dayton.

Halley Smith led the PNG defensive charge with 12 digs, while Shults added seven. Sarah Grove’s seven kills, Maylin Louvier’s five kills, and Smith’s four aces helped the Rock-A-Noos (16-18, 6-2 in 21-5A). Kasidee Sartin, Louvier and Bolyard each totaled two aces.

 

Sabine Pass 3, High Island 1

In High Island, Jamesia Jones’ 16 digs helped the Sharks (16-8, 8-4 in 24-2A) in a near-sweep of the Cardinals.

Joanna Smolsky’s eight kills, Nevaeh Jones’ five, Yainn Zuniga’s four and Brooklyn Dixon’s three led Sabine Pass offensively. Kennedy LeJune had eight digs for the Sharks.

 

Barbers Hill 3, Memorial 0

In Port Arthur, the district-leading Eagles earned a 25-11, 25-6, 25-1 sweep of the Lady Titans (0-8 in 21-5A). No statistics were available.

 

TEAM TENNIS

Nederland shuts out GCM in bi-district

Nederland’s team tennis team posted a 17-0 victory over Goose Creek Memorial on Tuesday in the bi-district round of the UIL 5A playoffs.

Nederland will take on Shadow Creek in the area round at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at GCM in Baytown.

Also in the 5A bi-districts, Friendswood beat Port Arthur Memorial and Galveston Ball defeated PNG.

On Thursday, the districts 21-5A and 22-4A cross country meet will be held at Claiborne West Park in Vidor.
