NEDERLAND — The City’s Imelda Debris Operation commenced Sept. 28 in the most severally impacted area – the Lakes of Nederland subdivision.

DRC, the debris removal contractor, begins the second pass today (Oct. 14) in the neighborhood and other affected areas. It is necessary to separate debris; the debris should be placed in separate piles as follows:

• Green Waste (limbs, tree branches, logs, leaves, and vegetation);
• Construction Debris (drywall, lumber, carpet and furniture);
• Appliances;
• Electronics (televisions, computers, printers, etc.);

Do not place debris in garbage bags; this will not be picked up.

Nederland officials say they recognize separation of debris may be an inconvenience, but the City is following FEMA guidelines on debris.

“We ask you to move vehicles parked in front of debris piles; those vehicles may prevent the contractor from picking up debris at that location,” a release from the city said.

The City with its trash trucks will handle reconstruction/repair debris; this must be separated from the other debris piles. The City plans to not interrupt normal trash service with this additional work to recover from the storm.
