NEDERLAND — The city’s Imelda debris operation began Saturday in the most severally impacted area – the Lakes of Nederland subdivision.

DRC, the debris removal contractor completed the first pass in the neighborhood and other impacted areas.

Nederland instructed DRC to “pause” the debris operation until Oct. 14th to allow impacted property owners to continue their demolition and place debris by the curb; DRC will start the second pass Oct. 14.

It continues to be necessary to separate debris; the debris should be placed in separate piles as follows:

  1. Green Waste (limbs, tree branches, logs, leaves, and vegetation);
  2. Construction Debris (drywall, lumber, carpet and furniture);
  3. Appliances;
  4. Electronics (televisions, computers, printers, etc.);

DRC cannot pick-up debris placed in black garbage bags. The City recognizes separation of debris may be an inconvenience, but the City is following FEMA guidelines on debris.
