Enoria Gomez of Port Arthur has been recognized by the Texas Health Care Association as a 2019 Certified Nurse Aid of the Year for Region 6, which includes East Texas.

“I’ve worked as a nurse aid for 17 years and I’m still working,” Gomez said. “I care for all the patients.”

Gomez was nominated by her co-workers and selected by a panel of long term care clinicians from across Texas.

Director of nursing Florence Linscomb has worked with Gomez since she hired her, and said Gomez is one of the best.

“She’s a dedicated nurse aid,” she said. “She’s always at work on time, she’s caring to the residents, always has a smile on her face when she comes to work, always has a smile when she leaves. All the residents love her. She performs her job to the best of her ability, which is always the best.”

During Hurricane Harvey, Gomez stayed help evacuate 105 residents by boat to a sister facility and helped residents settle in and feel comfortable in their new surroundings, according to administrator Carrie Jeanis in her recommendation submission.

“She always signs up to work open shifts when they are available,” Jeanis said. “She always says ‘yes,’ and the nursing administration and staff love working with her.”

Jeanis also notes she’s never once received a complaint from family or residents about Gomez.

Linscomb said Gomez’s caring attitude and dedication are her best qualities.

“Certified nurse assistants like Enoria (Gomez) are vital for quality long term care,” said Kevin Warren, president and chief executive officer of THCA. “They do a tough job with skill, with compassion and with a smile. Residents, families and co-workers know they can trust them. This award recognizes Enoria (Gomez) for the difference she makes in people’s lives every day.”

“Enoria is a beautiful person with a beautiful personality,” resident Elma “Jean” Wohner wrote. “She’s kind and she’s always generous with the time she spends with us.”
