Final-round collapse costs Landry high finish

Knocking on the door of a top-10 finish in the Safeway Open, Andrew Landry cost himself considerable money and significant FedEx points Sunday with a bogey-bogey finish over the Silverado Resort North Course in Napa, California.

Landry wound up shooting even-par 70 for a 72-hole total of 272. He finished in a tie for 23rd. What will haunt Landry is that he was in prime birdie position on both 17 and 18 before stumbling badly.

His bogey on the par-4 17th came after he’d driven the ball into the fairway some 110 yards from the pin. On the par-5 18th, he hit two big shots and was in the rough 39 feet from the pin. From there it took him four shots to get in the hole.

The stumble at the finish came after the Port Neches-Groves ex had birdied the 15th and 16th holes to move into 11th place. A birdie at 17 or 18 would have gotten him inside the top 10.
