Volleyball roundup: 62-point set part of Nederland’s 20th win

Nederland made up one of its volleyball matches postponed due to Tropical Storm Imelda, and as a bonus, scored 32 points in one of the sets.

Katie Perez’s 15 kills, eight digs and two aces led Nederland’s 25-17, 32-30, 19-25, 25-14 win at Vidor, giving the Bulldogs (20-13, 3-1 in 21-5A) their second victory in as many days. Hannah Hickey totaled 12 kills and two blocks; Karley McGill made 10 kills, Kaylee Adams dug 25 and aced four and Kamren Savarino had 36 assists, six digs and an ace.

Nederland will visit Dayton on Tuesday.

PNG 3, DAYTON 1

In Dayton, the Rock-A-Noos (13-16, 3-0 in 21-5A) surged from a 13-25 opening-set loss to close out 25-17, 25-18, 25-20 sets and win their third match in four days.

Liz Bolyard’s 26 kills, 13 digs and four aces willed PNG, along with Breeana Riggs’ 31 assists and 10 digs and Halley Smith’s 27 digs. Maylin Louvier and Sarah Grove each totaled eight kills, Paxton Shults threw in nine assists, and Kasidee Sartin and Trista Hughes combined for 17 digs. Sarah Grove and Louvier each blocked four attacks.

Also in the win, Layla Stansbury and Shults combined for 11 kills.

PNG will face Barbers Hill on Tuesday afternoon.

Also Saturday: Barbers Hill swept Memorial (0-3 in 21-5A) 25-7, 25-11, 25-8.
