While Port Neches-Groves’ homecoming match went relatively smooth Friday, Brittany Fruge’s day was a little painful.

Fruge managed to coach PNG to a 25-11, 25-13, 25-13 sweep of Memorial on Friday afternoon as the varsity teams played first. Fruge is recovering from a weightlifting accident on Thursday in which she suffered a broken radius and several small fractures in torn ligaments.

No statistics were available for either team, but PNG improved to 12-16 and 2-0 in District 21-5A. The Rock-A-Noos played their second of three matches in four days after a 19-day wait mainly due to last week’s arrival of Tropical Storm Imelda, with the third match coming today against Dayton.

Memorial’s record was not available. The Lady Titans will take on Barbers Hill in a varsity-only match in Mont Belvieu.

 

Nederland 3, Cleveland 0

In Nederland, Hannah Hickey and Katie Perez each delivered eight kills and Kaylee Adams totaled 23 digs in a 25-9, 25-10, 25-8 rout of Cleveland.

Perez added four digs and two aces, Hickey blocked two attacks, and Adams aced two for the Bulldogs (19-13, 2-1 in 21-5A), which will play at Vidor starting at 9 this morning. Hannah Torres and Karley McGill each had six kills.

 

Sabine Pass 3, Hull-Daisetta 2

In Sabine Pass, Nevaeh Jones’ 10 kills and Yainn Zuniga’s 34 assists were much needed in extending the Sharks’ winning streak to five matches.

Sabine Pass (13-5, 5-2 in 24-2A) won 27-25, 26-24, 22-25, 25-27, 15-11.

“This game was point for point the entire game,” Sharks coach Andie Myers said. “The team fought harder than they ever have for this win! We are so proud of these girls.”

Charnel Jones totaled nine kills and Joanna Smolsky added six with two aces. Nevaeh Jones was tough on defense with seven blocks and also recorded si aces.

Zuniga added four digs and five kills, Jamesia Jones added nine digs, Kennedy Lejune had five digs and Brooklyn Dixon threw in four kills and three aces.

Next for Sabine Pass is a home match against Deweyville on Tuesday.
