Cade Bernsen, the chairman of the Jefferson County Democratic Party, has officially stepped down from his post.

Bernsen made the announcement earlier this week saying he and his wife are expecting their third child in the spring and family is his first priority.

“Between our growing family and a busy law practice, I have decided now is the time to take a step back and turn over the reins to the next person,” he said in a news release.

He added the party has achieved great success and has a headquarters in which they can be proud: unprecedented fundraising success for the county and establishment of the annual fundraising Blue Gala in addition to other accomplishments.

“At the end of the day I hoped to be the best chairman I could be,” he said. “I am proud of what we have accomplished. We have elevated our local party and set the bar high, as it should be. I am proud to live in southeast Texas and proud to be a Democrat. I will always be involved in our political system. Thank you again for this honor.”
