Port Neches-Groves was only supposed to wait 11 days after its last volleyball match to open District 21-5A play.

Tropical Storm Imelda made the Rock-A-Noos wait eight days longer.

Hours after the District 21-5A executive committee met at Barbers Hill to reschedule the postponed matches, PNG completed one Wednesday on the road, sweeping Cleveland 25-19, 25-11, 25-7.

Maylin Louvier and Liz Bolyard combined for 21 kills, with each totaling eight digs to lead PNG (11-16, 1-0 in 21-5A). Bolyard blocked three attacks.

Kasidee Sartin led the defensive effort with 15 digs, while Halley Smith contributed five.

Layla Stansbury finished off nine kills, Breeana Riggs and Sartin each aced five and Paxton Shults struck four aces. Riggs had 13 assists, with Shults adding eight.

SABINE PASS 3, HIGH ISLAND 0

In Sabine Pass on Wednesday, Jamesia Jones’ and Kennedy Lejune’s six digs apiece frustrated the Cardinals’ offense in the Sharks’ 25-13, 25-23, 25-14 sweep in District 24-2A play.

Brooklyn Dixon and Joanna Smolsky each had four kills to lead Sabine Pass (12-6, 4-2 in 24-2A). Dixon made five digs and Smolsky had two aces.

Yainn Zuniga and Nevaeh Jones each totaled four aces. Zuniga added three kills and 11 assists.

Next for Sabine Pass is a home date with Hull-Daisetta on Friday.

SABINE PASS 3, SPURGER 2 (TUE.)

In Spurger, Sabine Pass overcame a big hole and won three straight close matches to take a 14-25, 23-25, 25-23, 25-20, 16-14 victory.

Yainn Zuniga served five aces, Joanna Smolsky had four and Nevaeh Jones totaled two in the win. Kayla Dominick and Smolsky each totaled three kills and Jamesia Jones made five digs.
