Port Neches-Groves has yet to begin District 21-5A play after the remants of Tropical Depression Imelda made traveling potentially dangerous.

The Rock-A-Noos’ district opener at Cleveland was postponed again Thursday, two days after its original start date. The match was postponed Tuesday due to potential flooding between Port Neches and Cleveland.

“We will the evaluate the conditions daily and make a decision that puts everyone’s safety first,” PNG coach Brittany Fruge said. “As of right now the match date and time is TBD.”

PNG is 10-16 on the season and is slated to visit Dayton on Friday.

Memorial had the scheduled off-date in 21-5A Wednesday.

SABINE PASS 3, WEST HARDIN 1
Kennedy LaJune’s defense and a balanced scoring attack helped Sabine Pass even its District 24-2A volleyball record Tuesday night with a 15-25, 25-23, 25-20, 25-19 victory over West Hardin in Saratoga.

LeJune totaled 11 digs as the Sharks (10-6, 2-2 in 24-2A) rebounded from a slow start. Jamesia Jones totaled seven digs and Brooklyn Dixon five digs for the Sharks.

Joanna Smolsky, Nevaeh Jones, Yainn Zuniga and Dixon each had three kills, while Charnel Jones and Jaeda Bryant each struck three aces.
Sabine Pass will host High Island at 4:30 p.m. Friday.

BARBERS HILL 3, NEDERLAND 2
In Mont Belvieu, Nederland was just one set away from stunning defending District 21-5A champion Barbers Hill for a second straight year.

Following a 2-0 set lead, the Bulldogs (18-13, 1-1 in 21-5A) failed to finish the Eagles in a potential statement match despite getting 36 assists from Kamren Savarino and 29 digs from Kaylee Adams. The two combined for five aces.

Nederland won the first two matches 26-24, 25-16 before Barbers Hill built momentum with a 25-14 win and closed it out with 25-22, 16-14 thrillers. Karley McGill totaled 12 kills, and Hannah Hickey and Katie Perez each scored nine in the loss. Hickey added three blocks and Perez dug six and aced two.

Nederland will visit Vidor on Friday.
