BEAUMONT — The County Commissioners’ Court of Jefferson County tabled a decision this week to regulate Game Rooms.

The delay was part of Tuesday’s weekly meeting at the courthouse.

Michael Sinegal, Precinct 3, said the decision came in accordance with the sheriff’s office, which was not ready to pass the resolution due to uncertainties.

“There are too many unanswered questions concerning the orders,” he said. “There are some questions that haven’t been ironed out with the sheriff, the county clerk and tax assessors. (Sheriff Zena Stephens) still has some concerns about the regulations.”

Sinegal said he intends to vote against the resolution until the sheriff gives the OK on the matter and answers all concerns. There has not been a new date set to readdress the issue.

Also at Tuesday’s meeting, the Commissioner’s Court approved the increase in RV rates at Walter Umphrey State Park and tabled a decision to add a $10 fee for all tent use.

“We increased the fee of the RV at Walter Umphrey State Park by $10 on weekly, daily and monthly rates,” Sinegal said. “We tabled the issue about charging for tents. We are starting to have a couple of people put tents up on the county’s side and cause some issues. So we discussed putting a $10 fee on them.”

The decision to charge for tent use at the state park has been moved to the next meeting while more information is collected.

The also held a public hearing for a property tax increase for the 2019-20 budget year. No one took to the podium and the proposed tax rate was set at .364977, which is .010844 above the effective rate.

The County Commissioners next meeting will be held at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 24 in the Jefferson County Courthouse.
