Joan Roche’ Sonnier, 92, formerly of Port Arthur, Texas passed away Tuesday September 10, 2019 at Brookdale Assisted Living in San Antonio, Texas.

Joan was born December 1, 1926 in Troy, New York to Harry and Helene Roche’.

On July 20, 1957 she married the love of her life, Bob Sonnier, and they joyfully celebrated 43 years of marriage until Bob’s death in 2001.

She was a dedicated elementary teacher for 25 years, as well as the owner of Formal Fashions in Port Arthur for 11 years.

Cherishing her memories are daughter, Marigay Hodges of Groves; son Chris Sonnier and wife Susie Sonnier of Houston; daughter Rene’ Comalander and husband Mark Comalander of San Antonio, Grandchildren, Benjamin Hodges of Groves, Sean Sonnier and Lysbeth Sonnier of Houston, Allysa Comalander and Abby Comalander of San Antonio, as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, infant daughter, husband Bob Sonnier and sister Mariellen DuVal.

Joan was a faithful member of St. Catherine Church since 1957.

Her devotion to God and her Family was an inspiration to others.

Her unconditional love and acceptance of others is a testament to the wonderful person she was and the Christian Life she led.

Her kind, sweet, gentle spirit has touched many hearts through the years.

We would like to acknowledge her special friends from Independence Hill Assisted Living in San Antonio, where she moved after Hurricane Harvey.

Special thanks to all the wonderful people at Coronado Rehab and Brookdale Assisted Living who touched our precious mother, as well as our family, with their kindness and love these last two months.

Extreme gratitude is extended to Maddy, Rocio, Martha, Kat and Carla.

A visitation for family and friends will be held Friday, September 13, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with rosary at 7:00 p.m., at Grammier Oberle Funeral Home on 39th Street.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, September 14, 2019 at 1:00 p.m., at St. Catherine Catholic Church on Woodrow Dr. Rite of Committal will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial contribution in honor of Joan Sonnier to St. Catherine School.

We’ve said goodbye to our precious Mother so that heaven can say hello to an Angel.

She will forever be in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
