Braden Bailey was the only one of four professional golfers with Southeast Texas roots to break par in tournament competition Thursday.

Bailey rallied for three birdies on his second nine — the front at Victoria Country Club — to shoot his second consecutive 69 in the All Pro Tour Victoria Open. Bailey had struggled to a one-over 37 on his opening nine but closed strong with birdies at the third, fourth and ninth holes.

Bailey’s 138 is five strokes off the pace of leader Kyle Pritchard of Castroville. Pritchard shot 68 Thursday for 133.

West Orange-Stark’s Michael Arnaud, also playing in Victoria, shot an even par 71 and was in at 137.

Meanwhile, in the opening event of the 2019-20 PGA Tour Season — A Military Tribute at the Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia — Port Neches-Groves ex Andrew Landry was well back after a three-over par 73. Landry, who was even par through his first 11 holes, saw his round go south with a double-bogey 7 on the 12th hole.
Lamar ex Shawn Stefani was a stroke farther back with a 74.

Robby Shelton, playing his first round as a PGA Tour member, seized the first-day lead with an eight-under 62.
