PAPD: Orange man arrested, accused of sexually assaulting a 7-year-old

Port Arthur police announced Tuesday evening that a 25-year-old Orange resident has been arrested for sexually assaulting a 7-year-old.

In a release to media, Sgt. Shannon Meaux did not immediately provide the suspect’s name.

Police officers were first dispatched to 4023 Brinkman Drive in reference to a disturbance at 4:48 p.m. Tuesday.

“Upon arrival and through further investigation, it was determined that a 7-year-old child made an outcry to her mother of a sexual assault that had just occurred,” police said in a release. “The suspect, a 25-year-old Orange resident, fled the scene before officers arrived but later turned himself in at the Port Arthur Police Department.”

Police said evidence and witness accounts led to the suspect’s arrest and a charge of aggravated sexual assault of a child.

The Port Arthur Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division is investigating the case, Meaux said.
