PORT ARTHUR — Police are not saying if the two intruders who kicked in the door to a residence at Villa Main Apartments knew the occupants inside as the search continues for one of the suspects.

Some details have been released though — the female tenant was home at the apartments located at 901 Main Ave. just after 1 a.m. Monday along with her boyfriend and 3-year-old child when the two men, one of which was armed, broke in.

When she called police, one of the suspects fled the scene. She had been hiding and when she came out the second man was still in the apartment, police said.

Port Arthur Police Det. Mike Hebert said the woman stabbed the man multiple times before the victim’s boyfriend tackled and held him until police arrived.

The man’s wounds were not life threatening, police said.

Clarence Babineaux, 36, of Port Arthur was arrested for burglary of a habitation and brought to the Jefferson County Correctional Facility. His bond was set at $50,000.

Police could not say what, if anything, was stolen during the home invasion nor could they say a possible motive.

A second suspect, identified only as a black male, is still being sought.
