Volleyball roundup: Nederland surges to win over Kelly

Three Nederland players recorded double-digit kills and Kamren Savarino was responsible for 34 assists Tuesday in a four-set victory over Kelly Catholic in Beaumont.

Karley McGill’s 17 kills and two blocks led the offensive charge in a 23-25, 25-15, 25-22, 25-17 victory in the battle of the Bulldogs. Katie Perez and Hannah Hickey each totaled 10 kills; Perez also had nine digs and three aces, and Hickey collected two blocks and two aces.

Kaylee Adams threw in 25 digs, Hannah Torres eight kills, and Savarino four aces and six digs in the win.

Nederland (15-12) will host Woodville at 4:30 p.m. Friday.

 

Texas City 3, PNG 2

Following a quick start, Port Neches-Groves struggled in the third and fourth sets before dropping the fifth set by the closest of margins at Texas City on Tuesday.

Liz Bolyard’s 18 kills and Breeana Riggs’ 20 assists were not enough as PNG suffered a 21-25, 22-25, 25-11, 25-10, 20-18 defeat. Bolyard reached a double-double with 13 digs, while Halley Smith led the defensive charge with 27 and Kasidee Sartin added 17.

Paxton Shults had 12 assists and three aces, Maylin Louvier eight kills, Layla Stansbury six kills and Sarah Grove five for the Rock-A-Noos (10-15). Bolyard also finished with two blocks.

PNG’s next match is Friday at Manvel.

Also Tuesday: Bridge City defeated Sabine Pass in three sets.
