Volleyball roundup: Bulldogs, Indians start Santa Fe tourney unbeaten

So far, the Santa Fe volleyball tournament has been kind to both Port Neches-Groves and Nederland.

Halley Smith and Kasidee Sartin combined for 36 digs in PNG’s 25-19, 25-23 win over Houston Lamar to start Thursday’s action. PNG (9-12) then defeated South Houston 25-12, 25-19 and is awaiting a contest with Klein Collins.

Against Lamar, Liz Bolyard struck 10 kills and two aces, Paxton Shults had 21 assists and Smith collected 21 kills. Layla Stansbury totaled three blocks and four kills, and Sarah Groves recorded six kills.

Shuts stayed active in assists with 14 against South Houston. Sartin had five aces, Bolyard led with six kills, Kylee Droddy added three kills, Lydia Garza had eight digs, with Trista Hughes and Halley Smith making six each and Kaylee Hooper five.

Nederland won a three-set battle with Crosby, 21-25, 25-21, 15-13. Kamren Savarino totaled 20 assists and four digs and Jenna Brekel made 18 digs to lead the Bulldogs (12-10), with Karley McGill (11 kills, three digs), Katie Perez (eight kills, four digs, two aces) and Hannah Hickey (five kills, one block) leading the offensive charge.

Brekel had 16 digs and Savarino 16 assists in a 25-20, 25-11 win over Boling. McGill had seven digs and three kills, Hickey six kills and a block and Perez four kills, five aces and five digs.

Against Galena Park, Kaylee Adams struck four aces along with 16 digs in a 25-19, 25-14 win. McGill again led Nederland with five kills, Hickey and Perez each scored five (Perez two aces) and Savarino dished 15 assists.

Nederland will visit Hamshire-Fannett tomorrow evening and return to the Santa Fe tournament Saturday.

 

LEGACY CHRISTIAN 3, MEMORIAL 1

In Beaumont, Memorial (1-17) staved off a sweep only to suffer a 25-15, 25-19, 26-28, 25-16 loss to the Warriors.

No statistics were available. This match replaced a Friday contest with Bob Hope.

The Lady Titans are scheduled to have another open date before competing in the Young Men’s Business League tournament next Thursday in Beaumont.
